New Work
Here's some recent paintings, and some work in progress.
![]() Indie is my friend Fiona's black labrador. A lovelier dog you could not know: loyal, funny - a dog who, by Douglas Adams' criteria - "really knows where her towel is." | ![]() George, the English bulldog, a commission in May 2017 | ![]() I spend a lot of time walking and watching birds, and love the low horizons and heavy skies over the marshes near my home. I'm also increasingly interested in collaging parts of my paintings, and this compunction produced the above. |

![]() This is the perfect subject - a snack that you paint before you eat it, the ultimate happy meal. Two Jaffa Cakes and a banana, that was bought and went to live in America the day after it was painted :) | ![]() My mother was an organist for the Methodist church for over fifty years. This was her chapel for over thirty. I spent more time on this painting than any other on this page. It consists of collage elements as well as acrylics, including pieces of sheet music. | ![]() This painting of Ralphy the bulldog was done for Ralphy's owner - he has the most wonderful character, friendly and soft, and very he makes everyone laugh when they meet him.... |
![]() Six little mini chocolate eggs on a white background. Obviously, when you paint these you have to work quickly because if you don't eat them, if you walk away for five minutes somebody else will. | ![]() I draw from life models every week. It's the purest thing, the best practice for the eye, and without the eye the hands don't work! | ![]() This is an acrylic painting, as yet unfinished, of St Peter's Square in Manchester. I am building up layers of collage as well as painting. |
![]() This little yellow jug held the milk, and the eggs went into it to make the batter for the pancakes we ate after I finished the painting. | ![]() I love my garden. This is in the height of summer, when the purples of the irises disappear into the dark greens of the hedges and bushes. | ![]() My garden in winter in the rain, painted very quickly on the cloth cover of a hardback book. |
![]() Another life study. For the whole of last year I used nothing more than a pencil for these drawings. | ![]() These sketches are two minutes each of a really good model. | ![]() This commission was a pleasure to paint. If you look very closely you can see the owner's dogs on the right hand side. |
